Assisting with the activities of the Society

If you are interested in volunteering with the Society in any of the following areas, please contact our Project and Volunteer Coordinator at volunteering@surreyhillssociety.org

Walk leading and support

Join us for a unique opportunity to explore our stunning National Landscape. The Society leads on many walks during the year. Each first Sunday of the month, we organise a free-guided walk in a different location in the Surrey Hills.

We need passionate volunteers to lead, back mark, and support our walks. We cater for different ability levels and lengths, so please let us know your preference.

Don’t miss out on the chance to be part of our vibrant community and discover the wonders of Surrey Hills. Contact us today to become a volunteer and embark on this fulfilling journey with us.

Event organisation and assistance

Did you know we organise over 50 events each year? We need volunteers to help plan and deliver these events. Past events include a Glass Fusion Workshop, visit to Godstone Caves workshops and garden visits to Bridge End House in Ockham and Dolphin House in Shackleford. Check out our events page for more details. Join us in creating and supporting exciting events!

Shows, fetes and market support

We need volunteers to assist at local shows, such as the Surrey Hills Wood Fair and artisan fairs. You can help set up the gazebo, engage with the public, and showcase the work of the Society. No prior knowledge of the Surrey Hills or the Society is required, as you can learn on the job. We also need lead volunteers to organise the gazebo and oversee a team of volunteers – fitness and a car to transport the kit are necessary for this role. Join us in planning, setting up, and interacting with the public at these shows!

Administration

If you’re short on time but still want to contribute, you can assist with membership and accounting administration for the Society. This involves dedicating just a few hours per month to tasks like packing letters, reconciling transactions, and other general administrative duties. Coffee, biscuits, and a comfortable work environment will be provided. You can choose when to volunteer based on your availability and the workload.
