Bird Walk at Bookham Commons

17th May 2021, 10:30 - 12:00

Bird Walk at Bookham Commons

Great Bookham

     MONDAY 17 MAY 2021
     Start time: 10.30am
     Finish time: 12.30pm

Bookham Commons are a small remnant of a wildwood that covered most of southern England. Boar, wolves and bears roamed the woods. Now this ancient woodland, which was mentioned in the Domesday Book, is home to some rare birds. Many species thrive on the commons because of the varied habitats: woodlands, open grassland plains, marshy ponds and wet heathland. The area is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) by Natural England and has been maintained by the National Trust since the 1920’s.

Chris Burchell is an experienced bird enthusiast. We will enjoy a 2 hour walk exploring the area and discovering the birdlife and other flora and fauna. We hope to see and hear a number of our favourite woodland birds and spot a variety of waterfowl.

Our pace will be slow and there will be frequent stops to enjoy the natural beauty of this area.

We will give you more detailed joining instructions once your booking is confirmed and nearer the time.

This walk is not suitable for members with mobility challenges. The route will be on common land with sandy paths and some slopes. It could be muddy if wet, so please dress appropriately.

Cost to Members: £ 5.00
Cost to Non-members: £8.00

Please Note there will also be a National Trust Car Park Charge of £4 unless you are a member of the National Trust
