        Date:       19 April 2021

       Time:       1.00 pm – 4.00 pm

       Where:     Dunsborough Park, Ripley

We are extremely pleased to announce that the owners of Dunsborough Park have kindly agreed to open their delightful gardens for another private visit by the Surrey Hills Society.  Those who attended the Dazzling Dahlias display last year will know that these gardens present a fabulous display of colour and we are looking forward to seeing the tremendous variety of tulips that never fail to disappoint.

Dunsborough Park dates back to the dissolution of the Monasteries when the lands of Newark Abbey were given to a local nobleman. The farmer taking over the land built a farmhouse around a single central brick chimney which has now grown to become Dunsborough House. (NB The house is in private occupation and not open to the public).

The gardens were laid out in the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. Re-opened to the public in 1997 after being restored by garden statuary dealer, Dolf Sweerts de Landas Wyborgh and his wife, Caroline, this magnificent 100-acre estate comprises a series of historical gardens brought to life through vistas and garden architecture.  Although restoration of the gardens has preserved the original pattern of walls and yew hedges, some re-design has recently been carried out to complement the current owner’s magnificent collection of outdoor statuary and garden ornaments.

The cost of this event will be £10 for members and £12 for non-members.

This event is suitable for children and/or pushchairs.  Dogs are not allowed in the gardens. Dunsborough Park is accessible for members with mobility challenges although some parts of the garden may be inaccessible.  There are no toilet facilities on site due to COVID but in case of emergency there are numerous pubs and cafes in Ripley.

This event must be booked in advance so we can limit numbers for everyone’s safety. We will comply with Government guidelines and social distancing measures will be adhered to throughout the visit. You should not attend if you are feeling unwell or show any COVID-19 symptoms and, if you need to cancel, please let us know.  If government advice alters prior to the event, we may implement changes or cancellation at short notice.

The arrival times will be spaced at 5 minute intervals from 1.00 pm to no later than 2.30pm and we will give you more detailed joining instructions nearer the time including a precise time for your entry.

At this time we are taking online or telephone bookings only. We are currently not able to accept postal bookings.  Any enquiries please contact us at Info@surreyhillssociety.org or on mobile 07530 949302.
