Reigate – Caxton House Garden in the Spring

7th April 2021, 14:00 - 17:00

Caxton House Garden visit

Wednesday 7 April 2021

Staggered entry time from 2pm

When we visited this garden in September, everyone was very surprised to find what lay behind this seemingly urban frontage. There is a very large garden and arboretum which is most impressive. At the time, we were told that the best time of year to see it was the spring and we have therefore managed to organise a return visit. This is going to be very soon after the lifting of tight restrictions to allow people to meet in groups of no more than 6 outside and we will be making sure we are aware of everyone’s safety hence the need to give staggered times of entry.

We are offering a visit to this extraordinary garden by kind permission of its owner, Mr Bob Bushby.

This is a lovely large garden with its arboretum and two well stocked ponds. It is primarily a spring garden with a large collection of hellebores and spring flowers and so this visit is well timed to see it at its best. There are pots planted with colourful displays, interesting plants and a small Gothic folly built by the owner, herbaceous borders with grasses, perennials, spring bulbs and parterre. There is a new bed with wild daffodils and prairie style planting in summer and a new wildflower garden in the arboretum.

The walk through the garden is partly on paths but through the arboretum it can be on grass which could be wet, so please wear appropriate footwear and clothing suitable for the prevailing weather conditions. It is a relatively easy walk so should be suitable for all. Not suitable for dogs or children.

The cost of this event will be £5.50 for members and £6 for non-members, most of which is for the donation to the National Garden Scheme charity of which Caxton House is a member.

This event must be booked in advance so we can limit numbers for everyone’s safety. We will comply with Government guidelines and social distancing measures will be adhered to throughout the visit. You should not attend if you are feeling unwell or show any COVID-19 symptoms and, if you need to cancel, please let us know.  If government advice alters prior to the event, we may implement changes or cancellation at short notice.

We will give you more detailed joining instructions nearer the time including a precise time for your entry. The arrival times will be spaced from 2.00 pm until no later than 3.00 pm.

At this time we are taking online or telephone bookings only. We are currently not able to accept postal bookings.
