As our previous visits have been very popular and oversubscribed, we have organised another guided external walk around Kenley Airfield.
Established in 1917, Kenley was a very important airfield during the Battle of Britain, responsible for the defence of a large airspace over southern England.
Our guides are Alan Morgan, Chairman of the Kenley Airfield Friend’s Group and volunteer Linda Duffield who will lead us on a walk around the airfield.
We will see and hear about the most significant features of the airfield.
Douglas Bader served here in 1931.
Hurricanes and Spitfires flew from here during the Battle of Britain.
Unfortunately, on a Thursday, the Portcullis Club bar will not be open and this also means that there will be no access to their toilets.
There is a pub nearby, The Wattenden Arms, which will be open after the walk, and if you would like to have lunch there, please make your own arrangements.
Walking shoes are advisable. The walk will be on asphalt, however there may be a couple of places where we will cross short grass but the whole walk is on level ground.
The event is not really suitable for children under 12. The airfield is a popular place for dog walking. If you are bringing your dog, it is strongly suggested that they are kept on a lead for the duration of our walk.
You will be out in the open and on your feet for a couple of hours on an exposed airfield, so please wear suitable clothing.
Cost to Members £9.00
Cost to Non-members £12.00
This cost includes a donation to the Royal Air Forces Association.
Deadline for booking 12 October 2024
