26th May 2018, 10:00 - 17:30
Join us for a walk & talk on the chalk; meeting at the start of the North Downs Way at the junction of A31 and Station Hill in Farnham. The walk heads straight into the countryside along the National Trail, stopping for a lunch break (bring your own picnic) at Watts Chapel on Downs Lane. There will be enough time to walk down to the Artists’ village if those you wish to visit.
The walk continues across the Wey Navigation and visits the remains of St Catherine’s Chapel, continuing through The Chantries and up to the Church of St Martha on the Hill to take in the breath taking views over Albury. The final leg passes through Newlands Corner where Agatha Christie staged her disappearance in 1926 and onto Chilworth Gunpowder Mills where our final talk will take place. The walk terminates at The Percy Arms, Chilworth around 5.30pm.
Trains and buses will take us back to Guildford/Farnham. Walkers coming in groups may consider leaving cars at each end of the walk.
The walk is 14 miles long; steady paced, good surfaces with a few hills. A reasonable level of fitness will be required to complete this walk. Bring plenty of water and a packed lunch. Please dress appropriately for the outdoors, depending on the prevailing weather conditions on the day. The walk will happen in any weather.
This free walk is part of Farnham Walking Festival and our walk leaders for the day will be Peter Morris, North Downs Way Trail Manager and Chris Howard, Chairman of the Surrey Hills Society accompanied by Pete Lambert from Discover Guildford.
If you wish to join us for this magnificent part of the trail, please book your spaces for free at the bottom of the page. For further details and enquiries, contact us at info@surreyhillssociety.org or on mobile 07530-949302.
