17th July 2023, 14:00 - 15:30
We are having a private tour of this very special space in the lee of Box Hill. It is entirely run by volunteers, who like our Society, have been awarded the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.
The environment and volunteers provide a safe and friendly place for people with physical or mental health conditions or learning disabilities to come and learn new skills in a safe place including gardening and crafting and to make new friends.
Carmel O’Shea is the founder of Patchworking Gardens. She worked as a local doctor and nearly 10 years ago she set up the garden as she knew the benefits of gardening in promoting mental and physical health. There are around 50 volunteers who help and support up to 90 people each week within six sessions. The beautiful walled garden with wonderful views up to Box Hill provides positive change to peoples lives. There is also an academy where people can obtain a City and Guilds level 1 and 2 in Practical Horticulture.
We will have tea/coffee and cake on arrival and enjoy a talk on the history of the garden, the ethos of the volunteers and their work and the positive influence this garden has on the people who attend.
We will then have a tour of the beautiful garden which includes a pond and many artworks by the people who come to enjoy the space and the welcoming community atmosphere.
This event is suitable for wheelchairs and those with mobility issues but we would ask that you watch out for trip hazards.
Dogs on leads are welcome.
Cost to Members: £10.00

The cost of the event includes tea/coffee and cakes and also a donation to the charity.
