Polesden Lacey is the former home of socialite and philanthropist Margaret Greville DBE. The estate, gardens and mansion were left to the National Trust on her death in 1942 and further land was added from the Cubitt’s Home Estate (Denbies) in 1959, in lieu of death duties relating to the 2nd Lord Ashcombe.
The estate includes areas of Ancient Woodland listed as Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), but also includes rolling hills of pastureland and heathland.
Our walk of about 4.5miles will explore some of the beautiful, quieter footpaths around the western side of the Polesden Lacey Estate. There are no stiles on the route, but there are some medium grade slopes as we cross the valley in our walk to and from the centre of the estate. The path passes through some fields of grass, which may be used for grazing sheep or cattle, although this is not too common.
Dogs are welcome but will need to remain on the lead. This walk is unsuitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs.
Around half way through the walk, we will take a 20 minute refreshment break at the Polesden Lacey coffee shop or café, where toilet facilities are also available.
Reasonable fitness required – several moderate slopes This walk is classed as Moderate
