A Guided tour of Hope Mausoleum in Dorking

Time: 10:30 until 3pm

We are very fortunate to have a key member of the Deepdene Trail project to guide us around this intriguing site brought back to life by a HLF project in partnership with Mole Valley District Council and a variety of local partners including the Surrey Hills Society. Deepdene is a Grade II* registered landscape with a fascinating mausoleum of the Hope family that developed the estate during the early 1800s. We will also learn about the extraordinary life of Thomas Hope, one of the richest men in the world at the time. He was an influential creative designer and some of his furniture designs are now housed in the V&A Museum. The Mausoleum was buried to prevent vandalism by Mole Valley District Council in 1957 but was brought back to life in 2010 with funding grant from HLF.

The day will start with coffee at Dorking Golf Club before we set off on our 2 hour tour. We will then return for a hot lunch at the Golf Club.

Lunch choices are:

A. Beef Lasagne, salad and garlic bread
B. Vege Lasagne, salad and garlic bread
C. Ham, Eggs and Chips

Cost of tickets to include tea/coffee on arrival, tour guide and lunch:
Members: £ 26.00
Non-members: £31.00

This event is not suitable for children, dogs or those with mobility difficulties.
