Circle Eight are an amateur film group based in Guildford, Surrey and for over 50 years have scripted and produced numerous films and videos covering many subjects. They have won 127 awards over this period.

Following the successful showing of two films last year, we are delighted to welcome back former Mayor of Guildford, Terence Patrick, who is one of the leading lights of Circle Eight. Terence has selected the following three of his favourite films to show to us:

Guildford in the Great War
This locally acclaimed documentary, was produced to mark the anniversary of the start of the First World War, recalling how the town’s everyday life changed during the four years of hostilities between August 1914 and November 1918.

The film also recalls the 492 men from Guildford, who enlisted for active service on the Western Front and never returned to their home town.
Narrated by Matthew Alexander.

And

The End of the Line
A film about the history of Brookwood Cemetery and the London Necropolis Society.  In 1851, London’s cemeteries were full and the authorities looked for an alternative burial ground to serve the capital. The area of Woking was chosen and the vast new cemetery was opened in 1854, with a little help from the London and South Western Railway.

And after we have had tea and cakes

The Spirits of Brooklands

The name of Brooklands is synonymous with motor racing and its fame as the World’s first racing circuit. What is not so universally known, is that Brooklands was also the birthplace of British aviation – an historic site that has been producing world famous planes for over 100 years.
