GASP Motor Project Visit

22nd March 2017, 19:00 - 21:00

Come and join Chris Howard, the Chairman of the Surrey Hills Society and Sally Varah MBE DL, Chairman of the GASP Motor Project for an evening of wine and cheese, to view the fascinating work of this little-known charity, based in Gomshall.  This is an opportunity for Surrey Hills Society members to learn more about the great work going on in the Surrey Hills and strengthen the Surrey Hills network.

At the GASP Motor Project, young people aged between 14 and 19 years who are living in Surrey, learn basic motor mechanics and practical engineering skills in a modern workshop. They also provide a mobile service across the County.

Qualified mechanics run the daytime, after school and evening sessions; the daytime programme provides an alternative learning facility for mostly under-achieving and disaffected young people, and the evening sessions are for those in mainstream education. The young people work in small groups, in a safe and professional space. They start to know their way around a vehicle and learn how to work as a team. Since GASP was launched in 2005, they have run sessions for a wide range of young people who get hands-on experience and achieve more than anyone thought possible.

The event will take place from 7.00pm till 9.00pm. The meeting place will be sent out with your confirmation email when booking. There will be plenty of free parking available. The event is free and open for members and non-members, but any donations on the night would be appreciated and will go to GASP.
