North Downs Way from Guildford to Dorking – free, guided walk

As part of the Mole Valley Ramblers Spring Walking Festival, join Fiona Spencer, from Mole Valley Ramblers and the Chairman of Surrey Hills Society, Chris Howard on this 15 mile linear walk from Guildford to Dorking. This walk is in celebration of the 40^th Anniversary of the North Downs Way being designated as a National Trail. We are supporting the North Downs Way Manager, Peter Morris, in his mission to get every part of the North Downs Way walked as part of the celebrations.

This is a glorious section of the North Downs Way, with fine views to the south, and passing through beech woodlands and chalk grasslands; where the spring flowers should be plentiful. We shall start alongside the river Wey, then up to Pewley Down, St Martha’s Hill, with its iconic hilltop church, another ascent to Newlands Corner. From there it is generally level walking over Hackhurst Downs, White Downs and Ranmore Common. Finally descending to Mole Valley through Denbies Wine Estate, where you may wish to pause for refreshments near the end of the walk.

This 15 mile, guided walk is free and open to all reasonably fit walkers. Appropriate footwear and weatherproof clothing are essential. Well behaved dogs are welcome on the walk. Children under 18 years must be supervised. Bring plenty of water and a picnic lunch. Alternatively you have the option to stop at Denbies for a meal or drink towards the end of the walk.

Meet us at Guildford Railway Station (Grid ref: SU 9915 4978) Postcode: GU1 4UT at 9.30am and an approx. finish around 5.00pm. Best long term car park is Farnham Road pay on exit. Please note that the Park & Ride service does not operate on Sundays.

There will be a train at 09:03am from Dorking Deepdene station to Guildford at start. Return trains (twice an hour) at the end of the walk are also possible. Or groups may wish to leave cars at either end. Lifts may be possible to arrange if you call Chris Howard 07879 841000 in advance.

The event is free and open to all reasonably fit walkers and no advance booking is needed. If you wish to register for this walk, you can do so at the bottom of this page. This is a Mole Valley Ramblers event being supported by Surrey Hills Society.
