Repeat visit to Highways England at Godstone – FULL

11th March 2017, 13:00 - 15:00

Following the very popular visit last November we have arranged a revisit to the Centre with priority being given to those already on the wait-list. Consequently, this event is FULL and details are provided for information only

Have you ever wondered who is looking at the images from all the cameras on our local motorways or why the matrix signs are showing particular information?  The Surrey Hills Society has been able to arrange a visit to the Highways England Regional Control Centre at Godstone to answer these and many other questions.

The centre operates 24 hours a day, 7 days per week and covers the southern section of the M25 (from Junction 1 to 15) as well as the M2, M20, M23, M3, M27, M271 and M275 and includes certain parts of the region’s Trunk Roads: A2, A21, A3, A27, etc

We will visit the control centre itself for a guided tour and question session and (subject to operational activities) have the opportunity to take a close up look at one of the Traffic Officer Vehicles.

The tour will start at 2.30pm but parking is almost non-existent at the Centre.  We have therefore arranged an optional lunch at Godstone Vineyard which is only about half a mile away.  We have also arranged parking there for the afternoon and a minibus shuttle service to transfer us to and from the Centre.

The Society has a strong relationship with the Vineyard including the use of their wines at our tasting events.  They have very kindly offered us a special price for a cheese platter lunch prior to the event.  We need to know, at time of booking, whether you will be taking up this option.  You are welcome to arrive at the vineyard at any time from 11am onwards (if you would like to wander the area and, maybe, have morning coffee).  The lunch will be served at 1.00pm so that we are ready to depart from 2.00pm.

If you are not joining us for lunch it is essential that you arrive at the vineyard before 2.00pm so that the minibus has time for the transfers.

The exact location of the vineyard and parking arrangements will be sent with your confirmation of booking

The specially arranged package price for this event is £11 per member (£13 per non-member).  This price includes the cheese platter but drinks, cakes etc are at your own cost.  If you are not joining us for lunch the price will be £6 per member (£8 per non-member).

This event is not suitable for dogs or children.  The vehicle viewing will be outside so please bring outdoor clothing.
