Description of walk:. Horsley Meadows is a SANG (Suitable Alternative Natural Greenspace) and is managed by Surrey Wildlife Trust on behalf of The Land Trust. We hope to be joined by representatives of the Land Trust who will be able to explain more about the project and their plans for the future.
This newly created grassland nature reserve was until recently, an area of arable farmland. A 2.3km trail (parts of which we follow) now winds its way around the gently sloping site, which features magnificent mature oaks, newly planted hedgerows and areas of scrub under big skies. A newly seeded wildflower meadow is creating diversity whilst insects and birds are already becoming well established.
Leaving the SANG behind, we cross over to Lollesworth Lane with its old houses before heading into the fields south of the railway line.
Our return route takes us along an historic back lane to join Silkmore Lane which becomes an unmade byeway through the countryside until it reaches the lower slopes of Horsley Meadows and a stroll back to our cars.
Meeting Point: Horsley Meadows, Long Reach, West Horsley, Leatherhead KT24 6LZ.
