1st September 2022, 10:30 - 13:00
Join our President, Chris Howard and Vice president, Ken Bare (who are also the Chairman and Coordinator of Guildford Walkfest) for the official launch of Walkfest 2022 followed by a walk round the fields behind West Horsley Place and up onto the Sheepleas with its wonderful scenery and views.
Following the official launch the walk route will take in a short section around the flat fields beyond West Horsley place and Opera House returning to the A246 opposite St Mary’s Church. At this point, “non-walkers” can continue for a short distance along the pavement to return to their cars at Place Farm Barn.
The main group will cross the road and head past the church to enter the Sheepleas for a hilly, circular walk of about 3 miles, taking in the Millennium Viewpoint, the Yew Avenue and other aspects of this wonderful hillside which formed one of the original 284 Rothschild Reserves. Sheepleas was once described as ‘the finest piece of botanical and entomological ground within 30 miles of London’.
Good walking shoes are recommended and wearing long trousers at this time of year as there are lots of nettles and brambles. Please bring rain coats if appropriate, wear sunscreen and bring plently of water if it’s hot
ThIs event is not suitable for children and/or pushchairs or those with mobility challenges.
Obedient dogs on leads are welcome.
