15th June 2017, 10:00 - 13:30
Join the Chairman Chris Howard and National Trust Lead Ranger Rob Hewer for a guided walk around Denbies Hillside. Enjoy stunning views and scenery as we meander along the stunning scarp slopes of the North Downs. Meet the Landbarn Farm estate and woodworking volunteers who are based at the farm who help manage the estates.
The morning will start with a cup of coffee/tea and a biscuit on our arrival to Landbarn Farm. We will be welcomed to the National Trust estate by Lead Ranger Rob Hewer to visit the wood workshop and hear about the estate, its maintenance and of course about all the fantastic wood work done at the premises by volunteers. They have sculpted benches, information boards, bridges and even the magnificent Tillingbourne Valley map now placed at Shere Museum.
We will use the farm as base and will start a 1.5 hours (2.5 miles) walk from there. We will walk out onto the downland to see adders, butterflies and orchids. Bring along cameras and binoculars to make the most of the marvellous views. Take a picture by the iconic oak carving which depicts the life cycle of the Adonis Blue Butterfly. Note that there will be some steep inclines, so the walk is not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs.
The walk will end at Landbarn Farm where we can enjoy our well-deserved picnics and drinks. So bring your own picnic along and the Society will provide teas and coffees.
There is ample parking available and there are toilets and a kitchen facility.
The price for the visit and guided walk to admire the wildlife will be £5 for members and £6 for non-members. This includes a donation to National Trust.
