Join Gordon Jackson, Chairman of Surrey Hills Society on this short two hour walk which covers just over 3 miles.
This delightful walk will explore part of the Wey Navigational Canal, originally constructed between 1651 and 1653, between Triggs Lock and Cartbridge. We will walk through fields and alongside the river and take a short deviation to look at the lakes owned by Woking District Angling Association. These are clearly visible but not accessible from the footpath.
The walk has wonderful views of both the canal and surrounding meadows at the back of Send. The area is rich in wildlife, and it is well worth bringing binoculars if you have them. During the course of the walk your leader will tell you something of the history of the Canal and the surrounding area.
The walk starts at the Olive Tree Public House by kind permission of the Manager. Lunch may be booked at the Olive Tree which is open from 12:00 pm. You can view their menu here and please state in the comments box when registering for this walk if you would like to stay for lunch and we will let the pub know to expect you.
The walk is along the towpath and footpath but there may be muddy sections if there has been a lot of rain and appropriate footwear is essential. Please bring sunscreen lotion if required.
Well behaved dogs welcome on leads.
