11th July 2019, 10:00 - 16:00
Our Chairman, Gordon Jackson, is pleased to invite you to join him on an exclusive visit to the Hampton Estate at Seale (near Puttenham). We are privileged to be hosted by Bridget Biddell who is currently High Sheriff of Surrey and her husband Bill who is Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Surrey. They will guide us around parts of the estate and explain how they have diversified to ensure that it remains successful and sustainable.
During the morning, we will wander around areas close to the core of the estate and visit woodlands, gardens, their beef cattle rearing activities and other parts of the farmland.
For the afternoon session, we will get back into our cars and drive down to their hop garden in Puttenham (car sharing please) and discover more about how local hops became so important to the area. Time permitting, we will also visit one of their former farms which has been converted into a small business unit – complete with a centralised heating system using wood chip from the trees on their land.
This will be a full and fascinating day for all of us and a chance to learn more about this beautiful part of our Surrey Hills. Understandably, all this fresh air will lead to healthy appetites and our hosts are kindly providing lunch for us at Myrtles Courtyard. The menu will be as shown below. It is essential that you let us know, in advance, of any dietary constraints relating to this menu.
Sausage plat With Hampton Herby pork sausage meat
OR Vegetarian plat with tomato, onion, cheese and herbs
All Served with Hampton garden salad and bread and butter
Summer fruits and cream and meringues
Coffee and Tea
We will be spending a lot of the day outside so please dress appropriately for the weather on the day.
The event is unsuitable for children and dogs. Walking will be predominantly on unmade surfaces and some parts of the day may include transport on a tractor and trailer. If you have any mobility issues, please advise us when booking.
The cost for this exclusive opportunity to spend the day in the company of the High Sheriff and Vice Lord-Lieutenant will be £40 for members and £45 for non-members. This will include refreshments on arrival, and lunch as described above.
Booking is essential. If you would like to join us, please book your place online at the bottom of this page or alternatively complete and return the downloadable slip here below to arrive at Warren Farm Barns by Thursday 4th July. Please include your e-mail address or a stamped addressed envelope so you may be sent full details, directions and locations for the visit.
