East Clandon Village Day – FULL

5th June 2019, 10:30 - 16:00

East Clandon is a relatively small community nestling at the foot of the hills between Horsley and Guildford.  With its centre being well off the main road the village is unknown to many – even those living not far away.  But this village has a lot to offer – from history to TV fame to high quality wine.  Our day in East Clandon aims to lift the lid on the special features to be found here amid the Surrey Hills countryside.

On arrival in the village, we will park and then walk to the nearby church where we will be greeted by local historian, Jane Thorold.  We will hear a talk on the history of the area and enjoy refreshments before heading off for a guided tour around the heart of the village.

Arriving back in the centre, we will migrate to The Queens Head for a two course lunch (included in the ticket price).

Fully refreshed, we return to our cars and drive the short distance to High Clandon Vineyard.  The timing of this day in East Clandon has been chosen specifically so that we have the opportunity for a private view of the sculpture exhibition taking place at High Clandon.

Our afternoon session, lasting about 90 minutes, will be hosted by the owners of the vineyard – Sibylla and Bruce Tindale – who will lead a tour, talk and tasting of their exquisite sparkling wine.  Understandably, Sibylla and Bruce are passionate about Surrey wines and have recently joined forces with nearby producers to promote the wines more widely. Others also think highly of High Clandon with it twice being named The International Wine Challenge (IWC) Cellar Door of the Year winner, in partnership with VisitEngland who aim to uncover England’s best vineyard experience.

Our day in this fascinating village and vineyard will finish at about 4.00pm.

For logistical reasons, this event is limited to 25 attendees and is unsuitable for children and dogs.

We will be spending a lot of the day outside so please dress appropriately for the weather on the day.

Walking will be predominantly on hard surfaces in the morning and grass in the afternoon.  If you have any mobility issues, please advise us when booking.
