Come to enjoy glorious views and discover varied habitats of the trail that traverses the wider countryside around beautiful Banstead Woods. The route explores the Chipstead Downs chalk grassland complex which includes Fames Rough and Park Downs. A designated SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest) by Natural England, Chipstead Downs is situated on the dip slope of the North Downs and is home to many rare plant species and butterflies which are typical of this landscape.
Meet us at Holly Lane Car Park, CR5 3NR (Grid ref: 273 583) from 10.30am to leave at 11am. Chipstead train station is only five minutes’ walk to Holly Lane car park.
The walk will be guided at all times, but requires a reasonable level of fitness. Please wear suitable clothing and shoes for the day. Due to muddy conditions and forecast for rain, we will walk the shorter (3 miles) Banstead Nature Trail which starts at the Holly Lane car park. The closest pubs to the Trail are very popular on Sundays – we are told – there will be an option to join us for a drink in one of them, but eating at the pubs is likely to take longer.
Dogs can join us for the walk, but it will be advised at times to put them on a lead near roads/farmland.
Registration is essential. If you wish to join us for the walk, please book your space below. For more information contact us at info@surreyhillssociety.org.
