2nd November 2025, 10:30 - 12:30
Join our Chairman Gordon Jackson for a fairly gentle 2 hour walk following some of the different footpaths through this pine woodland and heath taking in the lovely views of the surrounding area.
Bourne Wood (also known as Bourne Woods) is an area of predominantly coniferous woodland just south of Farnham. Much of the wood was formerly heathland at the western end of the Greensand Ridge that was developed privately during the 20th century as commercial conifer plantations. Part of Bourne Wood has been purchased by the RSPB and forms part of the larger Farnham Heath Nature Reserve. It is home to nightjars, woodlarks, Dartford warblers, tree pipits and many other heathland species.
During the summer months Farnham Heath also forms the backdrop for the Heathlands Art Trail organised by Surrey Hills Arts. Some of the exhibits have been retained over the years by the RSPB as permanent features.
Bourne Woods is a well know location used for many films, the latest ones being a Netflix production called Back in Action, Disney + film called Renegade Nell, Ridley Scott’s Napoleon, HBO’s House of the Dragon and The Witcher a drama production for Netflix.
Our walk will start at the RSPB Farnham Heath car park which is next to the Rural Life Centre in Tilford. The Market Garden Café, situated near the main entrance, is open to all, no museum entry ticket is required, so you may like to stop for refreshments after our walk. Click here to see their menu.
