Following the Society’s involvement in Guildford Walkfest, which naturally led to a concentration of walks in the west of the county, we are heading eastwards for our October walk.  Why not join our Vice Presidents’ Chris Howard and Ken Bare for this 3 mile guided walk around Banstead Woods.

Our walks in this area have always proved very popular but, for those who haven’t visited in recent years, there is a new treat.  In 2017, a Narnia Trail was developed within the area covered by our Banstead Nature Trail route so you may get extra surprises during your walk!  2017 also marked Banstead Woods and Chipstead Downs’ designation as a Local Nature Reserve for its Ancient Woodland and rare chalk grassland habitats and species which are in significant decline nationally.

Whilst the British climate can often play tricks on us, there is also a good chance that a walk at the beginning of October will allow us to enjoy some autumn colour as we walk through this mixed woodland and out into the adjacent open areas.

This is a popular family walking and dog walking area so well behaved dogs on leads are welcome.

Whilst the majority of the route is fairly level, the walk starts with a significant uphill section and there are a few other slopes on the way round. Consequently, the walk is not suitable for those who have difficulties walking up hills.

This walk will go ahead regardless of the weather so please wear appropriate footwear and suitable clothing.

We will meet at Holly Lane car park, Holly Lane, Banstead, Surrey CR5 3NR.  Parking is free.

Note:  There are several pubs in the area if anyone wishes to eat or drink after the walk.  However, they all get very busy at weekends (especially with Covid restrictions) so walk attendees should make their own personal bookings with any establishment.

This event is free but must be booked in advance so we can limit numbers for everyone’s safety.  We will limit the size of groups to comply with Government guidelines and social distancing measures will be adhered to throughout the walk.   You should not attend the walk if you are feeling unwell or show any COVID-19 symptoms and please let us know if you need to cancel.  You may want to bring your own alcohol-based hand sanitiser, gloves and first aid supplies.  Face masks are optional.

We ask all attendees to follow the prevailing advice on social distancing during this event. If government advice alters prior to the event, we may implement changes or cancellation at short notice.

Booking is essential and at this time we are taking online or telephone bookings only. We are currently not able to accept postal bookings.

Any enquiries please contact us at info@surreyhillssociety.org or on mobile 07530-949302.

By continuing and making a booking you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to the Terms & Conditions specified in our Cancellation Policy and Responsibility Statement, both of which can be viewed by clicking here
