Join us for a fascinating afternoon in the company of Christopher Bell, a Surrey Hills Society member and experienced Guildford Town Guide, as he leads a specially themed walk entitled “Law and Disorder.”

Despite being the centre for administration of law in Surrey, Guildford has witnessed many atrocities and crimes. The town was also the site for 3 county prisons over the centuries. On this walk, we dip into the tales of this murky, but fascinating, past.

This entertaining and insightful guided walk will explore some of the more curious tales of crime, punishment, and social order in Guildford’s history. From local courtrooms and petty criminals to famous cases and unsolved mysteries, Christopher will bring the town’s chequered past vividly to life.

Expect an easy-paced walk suitable for most levels of fitness, with plenty of stops to hear stories and ask questions.

We class this walk as Easy and will last no more than 90 minutes.   Please wear suitable footwear and clothing for the weather.  The route is mainly on paved surfaces, but there may be some gentle inclines and uneven ground.

This event is not suitable for wheelchair users as access to The Fallen Angel is via stairs.

No dogs please.

After the walk we will have tea and cakes at The Fallen Angel, located in in one of the oldest and finest buildings in the High Street.   If you have any dietary requirements please note these in the comments box when booking.

The cost will be £12.00 for members and £15.00 for non-members. This cost includes all food and drink mentioned above and we will also be making a donation to Guildford Town Guides.
