North Downs Way from Dorking to Reigate – free, guided walk

5th May 2018, 10:00 - 16:00

As part of the Mole Valley Ramblers Spring Walking Festival, join Fiona Spencer from Mole Valley Ramblers and the Chairman of Surrey Hills Society, Chris Howard on this 9.5 mile linear walk from Dorking to Reigate. This walk is in celebration of the 40th Anniversary of the North Downs Way being designated as a National Trail. We are supporting the North Downs Way Manager, Peter Morris in his mission to get every part of the North Downs Way walked as part of the celebrations.

This is a pretty section of the North Downs Way, with fine views, and passing through woodlands and chalk grasslands; where the spring flowers should be plentiful. We will cross the stepping stones over the River Mole and scale the steep scarp of Box Hill taking in views, which inspired the final 500 lines of John Keats’ Endymion, before plunging down to join the Pilgrims Way / NDW and follow in the footsteps of historic travellers.

At the ridge of Colley Hill, we will enjoy stunning views through the woodland. Pause at the viewing platforms of Box Hill, Colley Hill and Reigate Hill and savour magnificent views across a landscape rich in fauna and flora and towards the sight of the restored Reigate Fort.

This 9.5 mile, guided walk is free and open to all reasonably fit walkers. Well behaved dogs are welcome on the walk. Children under 18 years must be supervised. Bring a picnic lunch and plenty of water. Appropriate footwear and weatherproof clothing are essential.

Meet us at Dorking Main Railway Station (Grid ref:  TQ171501) Postcode: RH4 1TF at 9.45am for 10.00 am prompt start and an approx. finish around 3.00pm. In the morning, there is a 9.19am train from Reigate to Dorking.
