Members only event
You will enter this beautiful Arts&Crafts building through the main entrance where you can admire the magnificent staircase and Sir Conan-Doyle’s former office.
In the main hall local historian, Julia Mayo will tell us about the life of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle; focusing on his years in Hindhead and including the many organisations and projects he was involved with in Surrey. Sir Arthur was a man of many parts and played a role in the political life of the country at the time, together with creating a number of memorable literary characters. The future of Undershaw has been in the balance for many years and the charity behind Stepping Stones have made the most marvellous job of preserving the Arts and Crafts house and honouring the creator of Sherlock Holmes.
After this fascinating talk, we will be taken around the first floor of the building to see what used to be Sir Arthur’s and his wife’s bedrooms and library in smaller groups and the building’s caretaker will tell us more about the building’s current life as a school
