4th May 2023, 11:30 - 14:30
We will enjoy a private guided visit around this very special part of the Surrey Hills where rescued horses and ponies are living in 60 acres of calm and tranquility. We will have a talk followed by a tour of the sanctuary to meet the horses and ponies.
Mane Chance Sanctuary was registered as a charity in 2011. Jenny Seagrove is a founding trustee and runs the charity. In 2012 Monkshatch Garden Farm in Compton was being sold and with some very hard work and persuasion of some famous friends the charity purchased the farm.
Their mission is to rescue and rehabilitate abused, abandoned and old horses and integrate them with the local community. They also believe passionately that horses and humans can benefit in equal measure emotionally. They have a very special relationship with Shooting Star Chase, a hospice for children in Guildford with life limiting illnesses. The Sanctuary’s aims are to relieve suffering of animals, in particular equines, and for children who are vulnerable or suffer from physical and/or mental disability to provide help and relief through their horses and ponies. They also have a flock of rescued chickens mainly from battery farms and a rescue dog called Angel.
On arrival we will have tea/coffee together with some home-made cakes and have a talk all about the charity and its working. We will then have a guided tour of the Sanctuary showing us their horses and ponies and describing their philosophy.
Once the tour has completed we will enjoy a picnic lunch in their orchard (weather permitting) or if not in their barn. After, there will be time for you to meander around the farm.
This visit could be suitable for children and well behaved dogs. As it is outdoors, you will need to wear clothing suitable for the prevailing weather conditions.
The cost will be £13.00 for SHS members and £18.00 for non-members. The cost includes all the refreshments and a donation to the Sanctuary.
