Basingstoke Canal Boat Trip with tea and cakes

14th May 2026, 12:15 - 16:00

Basingstoke Canal Centre, Mytchett

Private Boat Trip followed by tea and cake

Thursday 14 May 2026

Arrive at 12.15 for a prompt 12.30pm cast off

After our very successful visit back in June 2022 and as requested by some of our members, we have organised another trip on the canal boat Rosebud. Those who missed out last time can now book their place and those who have been before have the opportunity to revisit and cruise on this beautiful waterway.

The Basingstoke Canal runs for 32 miles, from Greywell Village in Hampshire to Woodham in Surrey. Different parts of the canal hold their own surprises such as the flights of locks in Surrey, the lakes and flashes near Mytchett or the rolling fields and picturesque cottages near Odiham.

The Canal Visitor Centre at Mytchett is the perfect place to start exploring the canal and the Society has chartered Rosebud, a 12 seater boat operated by Surrey County Council.

We will run a series of hour-long boat trips leaving from the Canal Centre in Mytchett and going to Greatbottom Flash and back. All passengers must be able to board the boat unaided.

Our first trip will start at 12.30pm so we would like those booked on the first trip to arrive by 12.15 latest.

Subject to numbers we will organise extra trips at 1.45pm and 3pm. As we have to pay for the charter by the hour we will fill up the earlier times first. Please indicate your preferred time in the comments box and we will try to accommodate you.

Tea and cakes will be served in the Function Room at the Canal Centre which the Society has hired for the day. Refreshments may be offered before or after your trip depending on timing.

It is also possible for you to enjoy a self-guided walk along the banks of the canal, which is extremely picturesque and a haven for nature. The canal acts as a green corridor linking the waterway with the wider countryside.

Please note that Surrey County Council reserve the right to cancel or postpone the charter in the event of very bad weather. In the unlikely event of this happening, we will offer a full refund.

This event is not suitable for wheelchairs and no dogs are allowed. Toilets are located in the Canal Centre, there are none on the boat.

Please wear appropriate footwear and dress according to weather conditions.

Cost to Members £15.00
