Chiddingfold Community Conservation Volunteering Day

Join Surrey Hills Society and Chiddingfold Parish Council for a morning of conservation work as part of the Surrey Hills Conservation Volunteer Scheme.

 

 

 

Surrey Hills National Landscape and Surrey Hills Society are working together to facilitate a Surrey Hills Conservation Volunteer scheme. Surrey Hills Conservation Volunteers undertake conservation and access work across the Surrey Hills National Landscape, managing access and habitats for people and nature.

This free community event, open to all, will be focused on maintaining the Memorial Wood in the beautiful village of Chiddingfold.  Please reserve your spot and et us know you are coming by clicking here.

Tasks will include:

• Weeding and mulching around the base of trees

• Loosening tree guards

• Raking

This will help to benefit species such as the Endangered Red Listed Wood White Butterfly as well as other local wildlife and help to maintain the wide variety of tree species found in the Memorial Wood.

We will then walk together to the Memorial Wood.

Getting here:

If travelling by car free parking is available by the village green or in the Chiddingfold Village Hall car park. The Church porch is a short walk from both locations. We will then walk together to the Memorial Wood.

If travelling by public transport the number 71 bus stops at the Crown Inn in the centre of Chiddingfold on the Guildford-Midhurst route. Please check before you travel, particularly as this event is taking place at a weekend.

The nearest train station is Witley, but you will need to catch a bus to get to Chiddingfold.

What to bring

Gardening gloves and shears and a rake if you have them but it’s not essential.

Wear warm, old clothes and appropriate footwear as it could be muddy! Please bring waterproof clothes if it’s raining.

Further information

Light refreshments will be available and there will be access to toilets in the Church room.

Children are welcome but must be always supervised by a responsible adult. This event is not suitable for dogs.

Please Note: If it is raining heavily, the ground is frozen or covered in snow on the day, the event will be postponed. We will let you know in advance. Please do not smoke at this event.

Photographs will be taken on the day for social media and marketing. Please let a member of staff know if you do not wish to have your photograph taken.
