Join the Vice President of Surrey Hills Society, Chris Howard and Walk Leader Pete Lambert on this 4 ½ mile (7 km) circular walk from Godstone to Tilburstow Hill and back. This walk is mainly along tarmac paths and the sandy soils of the Greensand Way, so makes for an excellent winter walk.
This is a glorious section of the Greensand Way, with fine views passing through woodlands and several interesting ponds. Bay Pond was created in 1588 to power one of the Evelyn Family’s gunpowder mill – the same family that owned the Gunpowder Mill at Chilworth.
It has an excellent selection of pubs and cafes for you to enjoy upon your return from the walk.
The walk is recommended for relatively fit walkers as there are several steep inclines and two stiles to navigate. Appropriate footwear and weatherproof clothing essential. Bring plenty of water and a snack.
Well behaved dogs are welcome on the walk. Children under 18 years must be supervised.
Meet us at the Godstone Green, RH9 8DU at 10.30am for an 11.00am prompt start and an approx. finish around 1.00pm. There is three hours free parking on the Green. Nearest Railway station is South Godstone – 2 miles away.
The event is free and open to all reasonably fit walkers but please book your place our online booking system at the bottom of the page.
