Free guided walk

Explore Puttenham Common

Sunday 1 March 2026
Meet at 10.15 for a 10.30 am start
Approx finish at 12.30 pm

Join our Chairman, Gordon Jackson, for a walk that explores some of the woods and heathland of Puttenham Common, which is owned by the Hampton Estate and managed on its behalf by Surrey County Council.

The Common is a Site of Special Scientific Interest and is rich with bird and insect life. It is also of archaeological interest. There is a hill fort at Hillbury which is a Scheduled Monument, probably dating back to the Iron Age.

We will walk up to the highest point of the Common, where we will see the site of the fort and enjoy the excellent views.

The walk will be approximately 5kms and will involve a fairly steep ascent.

This walk will take about 1hr 45 minutes and is classed as moderate.

Please wear suitable footwear and waterproofs if necessary.

This event is not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs as the terrain is very sandy.  Children over 10 are welcome if they can manage the distance.

Dogs on leads are welcome.
