We will enjoy a private guided tour of this famous Military Academy which is the British Army’s initial officer training centre.

The Academy’s stated aim is to be the national centre of excellence for leadership.  The Academy was formed on the site of the former Royal Military College founded in 1801.  Following the ending of National Service in 1972 the RMAS became the sole establishment for the training of officers in the British Army. The Academy has collections of registers, historic archives, uniforms, paintings, photographs and other artefacts.

The tour will include looking around the Old College, the Wellington Room, the Indian Army Memorial Room and the Royal Memorial Chapel.

There are three commissioning courses which are run at the academy and are run between eight and forty four weeks. The regular commissioning course is split into three terms, each lasting fourteen weeks. The basic training is covered in the first five weeks, which has the reputation of being the most gruelling. Each intake normally has around 200 cadets.

The first Sovereign’s Parade (previously known as the Passing Out Parade) was held on 20th October 1948 in front of King George VI. The Sovereign’s Parade is held three times a year and the cadets are inspected by the Sovereign, or their representative in the Trooping the Colour.

Many famous people have passed through the Academy including The Prince of Wales, Sir Winston Churchill, David Niven, Ian Fleming and James Blunt to name just a few.  In 2015 Sandhurst appointed Colonel Lucy Giles as New College Commander-the first female college commander in its history. In 2019 Kelly Wilson was the first female officer to be appointed Adjutant of the Sandhurst Support Unit.

PLEASE NOTE:
All adult guests are required to bring photographic ID with them on the day. This can be a passport/driving license/bus pass – if it has a name and photograph this will suffice. Guests may be asked at any point during their visit to produce their ID, failure to do so could result in guests being removed from the Academy. After having checked in at Staff College Gate, guests must wait to be collected by Mrs Sheenie Chant, tour organiser for the Sandhurst Trust.

This event is suitable for those with mobility challenges and wheelchair users but please let us know in advance.

Cost to Non-members: £27.00
Tea, coffee and biscuits are included in the price and if you do have any dietary requirements please note these in the comments box when booking.

Dogs are not permitted on this event.
