Free Walk – A Summer Walk on Holmwood Common

2nd August 2026, 10:15 - 12:30

FREE WALK OF THE MONTH

Holmwood Common

Date: 2nd August 2026

Time: 10.15 for a 10.30 start to finish around 12.30

The common is home to much of our well-known British wildlife. In the warmer months, dragonflies hover above the ponds and amphibians live in the dark pools. The air is filled with birdsong and colourful butterflies flutter from one bright flower to another.  It is also an area with a long history as an ancient common once owned by King Harold and William the Conqueror.  The main body of the Common was gifted to the National Trust in 1956 by which time there were a number of freehold properties there, some of which have an interesting history of their own.

There is an all weather path which circles the common making a walk of just under 5 Km.  It is mostly flat with some slight inclines.  In the summer it is quite dry but if there is rain, it becomes wet underfoot so please choose your footwear bearing this in mind.  The event will go ahead whatever the weather unless there is reason to consider it unsafe.

There will be refreshments towards the end of the walk chez Cantor at Lime Cottage.

Dogs and Children are welcome on the walk, but pushchairs might be a problem in parts.

This walk is classed as an easy walk of 4km
