20th May 2021, 10:30 - 12:30
Near Epsom, nestled between London and the M25, Langley Vale Wood is one of the Woodland Trust’s four First World War Centenary Woods. The rumble of the modern world slowly fades away as you walk into the valleys surrounding you. With pockets of ancient woodland, diverse and fascinating wildlife and flora, and stunning views over the rolling hills of the North Downs you’re in for a treat visiting this exciting landscape.
The Woodland Trust’s knowledgeable volunteers will lead you on a guided walk where you’ll learn about the role the landscape played in the First World War and hear about their exciting improvements for wildlife as the site transforms from an intensive farm into a mosaic of woodland and grassland. This event will be run in a COVID-19 secure way – three volunteers will each lead a group of five people on the walk. The rule of 6 will still apply as dictated by the Woodland Trust therefore for this visit we can only offer the outing to 14 members. We are hoping to book a further visit in June when numbers will not be so restrictive.
Dogs on leads welcome. Please dress appropriately for the weather and wear sturdy footwear. This walk is not suitable for wheelchairs or members with mobility issues.
The walks will take 2 hours and booking is essential. NB there are no toilets on site.
This is a members only event and the cost is £10 per person.
We are suggesting that members may like to have some lunch at the Rubbing House pub after the walk. This will be at your own cost but in order to book enough outside tables, please could you indicate in the comments box whether you would like to join us.
You should not attend if you are feeling unwell or show any COVID-19 symptoms and, if you need to cancel, please let us know. If government advice alters prior to the event, we may implement changes or cancellation at short notice.
At this time we are taking online or telephone bookings only. We are currently not able to accept postal bookings. We will give you more detailed joining instructions once your booking is confirmed and nearer the time.
Enquiries please contact us at info@surreyhillssociety.org or on mobile 07530 949302.
By continuing and making a booking you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to the Terms & Conditions specified in our Cancellation Policy and Responsibility Statement, both of which can be viewed by clicking here
