Exploring Shalford and the Tales of the Tillingbourne

16th September 2018, 10:30 - 13:00

Join our Chairman, Chris Howard and local Parish Councillor Alan Midgley, for this fascinating, 4-mile walk down the River Wey, along the Wey Canal to Shalford. Once there, Alan will give you an insider’s tour of the rarely open Chapel of Rest and other points of interest in the village.

We will also visit Shalford Mill to learn more about the industrial history of the Tillingbourne Valley.  You will learn more about the Heritage Lottery Funded project, the Tales of the Tillingbourne, which showcased the amazing industrial heritage of this hidden valley. Chris and Alan were both enthusiast volunteers of the project.

The event is free and open to all reasonably fit walkers. It is run in partnership with Heritage Open Weekend and Guildford Walkfest.

Meet us at 10.30am at Yvonne Arnaud Theatre, Millbrook, Guildford GU1 3UX. Please bring water, rainwear and stout walking shoes.

Booking is essential. If you wish to join us, please book your space online at the bottom of the page.
