Discovering Cranleigh and a private visit to the Brooking Collection

13th July 2019, 10:30 - 14:30

Join the Vice President of Surrey Hills Society, Chris Howard for a day in Cranleigh, meeting some of the locals, viewing a possible inspiration for Lewis Carroll’s Cheshire cat character, and learning some of the local history of the area. We will also have an opportunity to go behind the scenes at Cranleigh Arts Centre and learn more about the history of this Victorian school that continues to be a hub of the community as the local arts centre.

Cranleigh claims to be the largest village in England and certainly has a great community spirit. It has a beautiful green common that runs right into the centre of the village and has some interesting independent shops to explore.

We will also be visiting a fascinating museum created by life-long collector, Charles Brooking. Since the age of four Charles has been collecting historic windows, doors, staircase sections, rainwater heads and even the old doors of Wembley station have made their way into his collection.

The cost for members is £15.00 and £18.00 for non-members including donation to the Charles Brooking Museum, tea and coffee, light lunch. The event is recommended to all moderately fit people. We will be walking around the village, but it is all on the flat and there are plenty of places to sit down to rest. The event is not suitable for children or dogs.

Booking is essential. If you would like to join us, please book your place online at the bottom of this page. Alternatively please complete and return the downloadable slip here below before Wednesday 10th July 2019. Full event details will be sent to you closer to the event date.
