22nd September 2023, 10:30 - 13:30
This walk will be led by David Rose who is a local historian and great supporter of Guildford Walkfest – both as a knowledgeable walk leader and by producing promotional articles for Guildford Dragon – our local online newspaper.
On this walk, David will be taking us from Dapdune Wharf downstream along the Wey. It is relatively flat and easy walking as we follow the towpath of the navigation to Stoke Lock. Then it’s over to the Riverside Nature Reserve, part of which will be walking along a wooden boardwalk. Passing Stoke Lake we will take a footpath to pick up the path beside the natural river and on through woodland. Using the pedestrian crossing at Parkway we then walk across Stoke Park to Stoke Road and down Markenfield Road back to Dapdune Wharf.
Along the route there will be pauses during which David will give plenty of fascinating details of local and natural history, all in conversation with those on the walk.
This 3.5 mile walk is on easy paths but classed as moderate because of the length. As with any walk, good walking shoes are recommended. Please bring rain coats if appropriate, wear sunscreen and bring plenty of water if it’s hot.
The ground around the edge of Stoke Lake and its adjoining field can be muddy if heavy rain has fallen.
This event is unsuitable for children and/or pushchairs. Those with mobility challenges should have regard to the length of the walk.
Obedient dogs on leads are welcome.
Meeting point: Dapdune Wharf, Wharf Road, Guildford GU1 4RR
