2nd May 2026, 10:30 - 15:30
Our Surrey Hills Society member Anthony Morton has organised this very special event visiting three church with tea and cakes in between visits.
Rev Andrew Pearson will start our tour with coffee at St Peter & St Paul Church in Albury village close to the Post Office.
Built on a hillside site by William McIntosh Brookes, this Grade II listed Romanesque-style church was inspired by the 12th Century Eglise Saint-Pierre at Thaon, Normandy. Its tall tower, plain interior and panoramic setting above the Tillingbourne Valley make it a distinctive landmark.
Our second church is Albury Old Saxon Church, Albury Park.
Rev Andrew Pearson will show us around this charming, ancient Grade I listed church, dating from Saxon and Norman times, is a flint walled gem, set amongst the trees of beautiful Albury Park above the gently running River Tilling. It is full of contrasts and surprises.
We will break at 1.15pm for lunch. Please arrange and pay for this yourself. It is up to you whether you would like to bring your own packed lunch or perhaps pop to the pub for a quick lunch. The Percy Arms is a 6 minute drive, the White Horse is a 5 minute drive and we suggest it’s sensible to make a reservation. Please leave time to get to our next destination by 2.25pm.
We meet again at 2.30pm at St Michael’s, Farley Green, where again, Rev Andrew Pearson will show us around.
The church is a converted 19th Century barn, which replaced an earlier building, one of several in a yard farmed in 1839 from Brook Farm. It was built between 1840 and 1880.
We will also have tea, coffee and cake before our tour concludes at 3.30pm
The cost which includes light refreshments at both locations is £14 for members and non-members £20. This cost also includes a donation to The Surrey Churches Preservation Trust.
This event is not suitable for children, those with mobility issues and no dogs please.
Full details, parking arrangements and timings will be sent to you once you have booked your ticket.
