Surrey Hills Challenge and Festival of Sports

23rd September 2018, 09:00 - 18:00

Join the Chairman of Surrey Hills Society, Chris Howard on the Annual Surrey Hills Challenge.  Chris and a group of Surrey Hills Society members will be walking the 10km route, whilst enjoying watching other walkers and runners doing the Ultra 60km marathon. The day also includes activities at the Festival of Sport hosted at Denbies Vineyard, where we will also be taking our SHS gazebo for the day.

The Surrey Hills Challenge charity event is one of the biggest sporting challenges in Surrey.  A series of running and walking events will take place on the beautiful landscape of the Surrey Hills, Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) on Sunday 23rd September 2018 from 9am to 7pm. The event will raise funds for the Surrey Hills Trust Fund to exclusively help local projects and community groups within the AONB. The Fund is part of the Community Foundation for Surrey, an independent charitable trust established to inspire local giving for local need.

All six routes encompass some of the most picturesque views across the Surrey Hills along the Greensand Way and are designed to test participant’s stamina and strength. People of all ages and fitness can participate in six different running and walking challenges. The Greensand Way will form the backdrop where the super fit can face the ultimate challenge with ‘The Ultra’, a 60km run, ‘The Full’ a 42km run or walk in the hills, ‘The Half’, no ordinary walk (or run) in the park of 21km, ‘The Ten’, a fast and furious 10km, ‘The Five’, a family challenge 5km or ‘The One’ a 1km fun run for kids.

Registration fees per person for ‘The Ultra’ £80, ‘The Full’ £55, ‘The Half’ £35, ‘The Family Ten’ £55, ‘The Ten’ £25, ‘The Family Five’ £35, ‘The Five’ £15 and ‘The One’ £2. A booking fee of £2 per registration is applicable.

The event is open to everyone. Participants under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult or guardian. For more information or to register visit www.surreyhillschallenge.com.

All six challenges will finish at the Festival of Sport set up at Denbies Wine Estate, helping create a fantastic atmosphere. It will be the focal point for the Surrey Hills Challenge as every competitor and their supporters converge to celebrate and relax after completing their challenge.

The Festival is a FREE event celebrating the Surrey Hills, an outstanding area for outdoor sport and exercise. It is set to showcase and demonstrate the different types of activities people of all ages and fitness can get involved with. From walking and running to horse riding and cycling, as well as showing how the area is accessible for all.
