Afternoon in the Historic Village of Ripley – FULL

25th October 2017, 13:00 - 16:15

We will be enjoying lunch at the historic hotel, The Talbot on Ripley High Street.  The Talbot originated in 1453 serving the needs of Newark Priory and in the 1700’s became a staging post and post office for the Royal Mail.  Lord Nelson was a frequent guest whilst travelling between London and Portsmouth.

After lunch we will drive to the Ripley Museum from where we will start a guided tour through the village and surrounding areas to be informed and appreciate the varying historical buildings and places in this fascinating village.  The talk will include information on how to date old buildings and there are plenty of significant structures in Ripley to assist our guides in showing us how to achieve accurate dating.  The walk/talk takes around 1½ hours and is suitable for all people.  Sensible footwear is recommended.

The price for the afternoon is £17.50/member and £19.00/non-member. The prices include a donation to the History Society.
