Join the President of Surrey Hills Society, Chris Howard on this 3 mile (5km) circular walk from Albury Saxon Church towards Shere and back along the banks of the River Tillingbourne.

The walk will start at the charming, ancient St Peter and St Paul’s Church dating from Saxon and Norman times. A flint-walled gem, this now redundant church is full of contrasts and surprises including a stunning medieval wall painting of St Christopher sporting a curly red beard, an odd but delightful eighteenth-century shingled cupola over the tower and the magnificent South Chapel – this was remodelled by renowned Victorian architect A.W. Pugin, responsible for the interior of the Palace of Westminster.

Our walk will skirt the outside of Albury Park and the edge of Shere, before circling back through both woodland and open fields, ending back again at the church.  Afterwards walkers might like to visit the quintessential English village of Shere with its charming buildings and stream with ducks.

This walk is classed as Moderate.  Please dress appropriate to the weather conditions and strong footwear is recommended as it may be muddy in places.
