Leatherhead

Join our Chairman, Gordon Jackson and Conor Morrow, Senior Countryside Officer with the Lower Mole Partnership on a leisurely walk along the River Mole which is a natural corridor for wildlife.

The Lower Mole Partnership was the first countryside management project to be established in the North Surrey Area and has been in existence since 1983. The Partnership has built up a large and enthusiastic, dedicated volunteer group which carries out a wide range of conservation management work.

Conor Morrow has been involved since the earliest days and has extensive knowledge of this beautiful stretch of river that links open countryside north and south of Leatherhead.

This circular walk will pass through a variety of different habitats which are home to over 100 species of birds, 20 species of mammals, 20 different butterflies and 15 species of dragonflies. We will hear about the conservation work that has been carried out and discover about this lowland clay river. Although it cannot be guaranteed, kingfishers are frequently seen on the river as well as little egrets and cormorants.

This event would be fine for older supervised children and obedient dogs are welcome provided they are on a lead.  Appropriate footwear is recommended and please dress according to weather conditions. Please bring plenty of water.

Afterwards there is the opportunity to visit the Running Horse Pub immediately adjacent to our start point – a 600 year old inn with pewter tankards hanging from oak beams and hand-pulled ales.

We will give you more detailed joining instructions once your booking is confirmed and nearer the time.

You should not attend if you are feeling unwell or show any COVID-19 symptoms and, if you need to cancel, please let us know.  If government advice alters prior to the event, we may implement changes or cancellation at short notice.
