Afternoon at Gatton Park

21st February 2019, 14:00 - 16:30

The Society has always had close links with Gatton and this is another chance for us to visit this gem of the Surrey Hills at snowdrop time.  If you have never been there before, this is an excellent opportunity.  It has a surprising location being very close to the Reigate junction of the M25.

We will begin with a talk from Louise Miller of the Gatton Trust about recent developments and future projects at Gatton Park.  This is a chance to get up-to-date on the progress in the Park including the “Capability” Brown project (supported by Surrey Hills Society) and the next steps for the restoration of the gardens and education work.  After this, there will be a choice of a guided tour of the gardens lasting about an hour, or a self-guided walk around the grounds.  We will obviously make sure we see the snowdrops and some of the sites of the work described in the talk.

Please come prepared for bad weather with suitable clothing and footwear, although the walking involved will not cover a great distance or be very challenging.  There are some short and steep inclines and shoes with good grip would be advisable, but few steps and no styles.

After being in the fresh air, it will be time to return to the hall for our afternoon tea.

As a major part of the event will be indoors, it will not be suitable for dogs, and it would probably not be of interest to children.

The cost will be £10 per member (£12 non-member), which will include afternoon tea.

Booking is essential. If you would like to join us, please book your spaces online at the bottom of the page or alternatively complete and return the downloadable form here below to arrive at Warren Farm Barns before Monday, 18th February 2016. Please include your e-mail address or a stamped addressed envelope so you may be sent full details, directions and locations for the visit.
