We are extremely pleased to announce that the owners of Dunsborough Park have kindly agreed to open their delightful gardens for a private visit by the Surrey Hills Society.

Dunsborough Park dates back to the dissolution of the Monasteries when the lands of Newark Abbey were given to a local nobleman. The farmer taking over the land built a farmhouse around a single central brick chimney which has now grown to become Dunsborough House. (NB The house is in private occupation and not open to the public).

The gardens were laid out in the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. Re-opened to the public in 1997 after being restored by garden statuary dealer, Dolf Sweerts de Landas Wyborgh and his wife, Caroline, this magnificent 100-acre estate comprises a series of historical gardens brought to life through vistas and garden architecture.  Although restoration of the gardens has preserved the original pattern of walls and yew hedges, some re-design has recently been carried out to complement the current owner’s magnificent collection of outdoor statuary and garden ornaments.

The cost of this event will be £8 for members and £10 for non-members.

This event is suitable for children and/or pushchairs.  This garden is accessible for members with mobility challenges although some parts of the garden may be inaccessible.  There are no toilet facilities on site due to COVID but in case of emergency there are numerous pubs and cafes in Ripley.   There are no refreshments available at the moment but you are welcome to bring your own picnic.
