Lovelace Bridges

Time: 10.30am ending at about 1.30pm

 

 

 

Head into the woods south of Horsley and you will soon start discovering a series of bridges built in different styles that connect the well surfaced paths…these are the Lovelace Bridges.

But why are these bridges here and who built them? All this we’ll look to discover on our Society walk which starts at the famous former home of Bamber Gascoigne at West Horsley Place and weaves its way through the managed woodlands and meadows of Sheepleas.

This is a walk for photographers, as you can expect stunning architecture, woodland wonder and panoramic views north of the Surrey Hills – if the weather is right!

Given the terrain we will pass through, it is not always even, so walking boots or shoes are recommended. There is approximately 150m of ascent and descent over the entire walk 6.6km / 4.1 miles, so please be aware this is not a flat walk. We will look to take the walk at an easy pace estimating 2.5 – 3hrs for its duration allowing for rest stops.

Parking, cafe and toilets are available at West Horsley Place at the beginning and end of the walk, but there are no other refreshment or loos on route. It is advised to bring some water, a snack and weather appropriate clothing.

• The walk is suitable for active children who are used to walking in groups
• Obedient dogs kept on the lead are allowed
• Due to the length of the walk and the uneven surface in some areas, this route is likely to be suitable only for those who are accustomed to such conditions and have the appropriate equipment to navigate them safely.

Although the event is free booking is essential due to limited number of spaces.
