Gatton’s Trees: Ancient and Modern

24th October 2020, 14:00 - 16:00

Gatton Park, Reigate
Saturday 24 October 2020
2pm – 4pm

We had planned to hold our AGM here at Gatton on this date, but this is not a normal year!  No AGM but we can still visit Gatton whilst observing all the guidelines for social distancing. We have visited Gatton many times before but this time the emphasis is on its trees. It is also a good opportunity to support one of our key venues in the Surrey Hills with whom we have had close links for a long time after a difficult year for everyone.

Gatton Park is a beautiful historic parkland designed by Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown with Edwardian gardens in Reigate, Surrey. Find out about the ancient oaks and ‘Capability’ Brown’s cedars to the planned planting scheme for this year – 100 Sakura Cherry trees near the Japanese Garden. A chance to catch up on recent changes and this year’s plans, with stories about Gatton’s history told through its trees.

We will divide into groups of 5 each with a volunteer guide from Gatton’s volunteer team ensuring that we meet with the Government guidelines.

The cost of this event will be £9 for members and £11 for non-members.

The event is an outdoor one and so you are advised to wear clothing suitable for the prevailing weather conditions and stout footwear with anti-slip soles. The terrain is varied and there are some slopes. The tour of the park will take up to 2 hours and would probably be a challenge for those with mobility issues.
Children could join the tour but it is not designed for them and it is not suitable for pushchairs.
Well behaved dogs on leads could be accommodated.

Booking is essential.  At this time we are taking online bookings only.  We are currently not able to accept postal bookings.

Any enquiries please contact us at Info@surreyhillssociety.org or on mobile 07530 949302.

By continuing and making a booking you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to the Terms & Conditions specified in our Cancellation Policy and Responsibility Statement, both of which can be viewed by clicking here
