RSPB Farnham Heath was once home to a gloomy conifer plantation. It has now been transformed into a beautiful heathland, with views across the Surrey Hills, abundant with wildlife that includes roe deer, crossbills, nightjars, woodcocks and tree pipits.
During this dusk walk, we will be guided around the reserve by Mark Crisp, Head Warden at RSPB Farnham Heath to hear and hopefully see the incredible Nightjar, one of our Surrey Hills heathland bird species, along side other resident and visitors to the reserve.
The walk will most likely be around 1-1.5 hours, finishing with a tea, coffee and hot chocolate station.
The terrain will be moderate as we’ll be going slightly uphill to a viewpoint, however we won’t be travelling far. Those in electric wheelchairs or buggies should be able to manage but for those in manual wheelchairs, we can arrange for the truck to transport you to the area we will be viewing from. Please let us know if we can assist you in any way.
Please dress appropriately for being outdoors at this time of year and wear suitable footwear (closed shoes) for sandy, uneven terrain.
As this is an evening walk you may wish to bring a small torch/head torch with you, but you will be advised when it is suitable to use this to avoid disturbing wildlife. You may also wish to bring an extra layer as it may get colder once the sun has gone down. If you have them, it may be a good idea to bring a pair of binoculars.
Toilets are available at the Rural Life Museum which is adjacent to the reserve.
No dogs on this event please.
