Come and join the Vice Presidents of Surrey Hills Society, Chris Howard and Ken Bare, on this easy walk around fascinating Farnham.  High above the town is Farnham Castle, which we will visit as part of the walk.  This was the home of the Bishops of Winchester for over 800 years. Farnham became a wealthy market town during Georgian times, although many buildings are much older, often hidden behind Georgian facades.  Many famous authors lived or are closely associated with the town including J.M. Barrie, Jonathon Swift. William Cobbett, Alfred Tennyson, and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

Today it is a thriving market town, championing its crafts and creative arts pedigree, with an interesting array of independent shops, cafes and restaurants.

Time of arrival is from 10:30am to leave promptly at 11am.

Grid ref:  SU844 465     Postcode for Sat Nav: GU9 8AD.  Limited parking around the station so best to park at the Sainsbury’s car park in South Street and walk up to Railway station.

The walk should take no longer than 1½  hours ( 3 mile) but it will depend on the size and speed of the group. The walk will be guided at all times.

The event is open to all reasonably fit walkers but is not suitable for buggies or wheelchairs. The walk is relatively easy but there is a steep climb up the hill to the castle and quite a few steps within the castle keep. Well behaved dogs on leads are welcome. Children would be welcome but is not designed as a children’s event.

Stout foot wear is recommended and weather appropriate clothing is suggested.

Please Note: We will end the walk an optional drink/ lunch at a pub afterwards.
