Loseley House and Gardens – FULL

5th September 2017, 13:15 - 16:45

We are lucky to have secured a private, guided tour of Loseley House and its beautiful gardens for our members. The Estate is normally closed at this time of the year, but they are willing to open their gates for us. They have recently been nominated for the Surrey and Hampshire Eagle Radio Listener Choice Awards 2017 – in the category of Best Day Out.

Loseley House has been fundamentally unaltered since the 16th Century. Sir Christopher More purchased the house during the reign of Henry VII.  The house was built using stone reclaimed from Waverley Abbey.  The descendants of Christopher More continue to occupy the house throughout its 500 year history and we will be privy to some interesting family and historical information during our tour of the house.  There are numerous interesting artefacts and family portraits chronicling the history of the house and the More family to this day.

We will be having a specially created, guided tour by the Head Gardener, Burney to all areas of the 2.5 acres from the Mulberry tree, reputedly planted by Queen Elizabeth I to the Organic Vegetable garden, via the Rose and Herb and Walled gardens.

To complete our visit, we will be served afternoon tea in a designated part of the Estate served in china cups with linen tablecloths.

The cost of this visit including the tour of the house, gardens and afternoon tea is £17.00 for members and £18.50 for non-members. The Garden, Grounds, Gift Shop, Tea Room, Chapel and Toilets are all fully accessible to wheelchair users. Please note that the Garden pathways are laid to shallow gravel.  The ground floor of the House is only accessible to non-motorised wheelchairs.
