Society Catch Up – Join our Zoom conference

28th November 2020, 10:30 - 12:00

Due to the current pandemic, the trustees have decided to delay the Society’s formal AGM until the beginning of next year.  However, although we can’t meet in person, we have decided to hold a Zoom event where our Chairman, Gordon Jackson and our Treasurer, Martin Cantor, will present their usual reports.  Despite lockdown, there has been quite a lot happening and we are delighted to welcome two guest speakers, who will give you a picture of what has been going on behind the scenes in the Surrey Hills:

The Chief Executive of Surrey Wildlife Trust, Sarah Jane Chimbwandira, who is also a trustee of the Society, will give you an up to date view of the work that is currently being undertaken and planned to preserve the biodiversity of the precious Surrey Hills habitat.

Changes in climate throughout our planet’s history have, of course, altered life on Earth in the long run — ecosystems have come and gone and species routinely go extinct. But rapid, manmade climate change speeds up the process, without affording ecosystems and species the time to adapt.

STOP PRESS – UNFORTUNATELY GENEVIEVE IS UNABLE TO BE WITH US DUE TO WORK COMMITMENTS.  HOWEVER THERE WILL STILL BE AN INTO THE WILD PRESENTATION.

Genevieve Lebus is the author of Into the Wild, a special report that was commissioned by the Surrey Hills Trust Fund in relation to our young disadvantaged communities and the role that the AONB can play in promoting their health and well-being.  We are now developing this theme and Genevieve will give a brief summary of her findings and explain what has been done since the publication of the report and the initiatives that the Surrey Hills Society and the Surrey Hills AONB are supporting.

The importance of our “Natural Health Service” is now widely recognised and The Surrey Hills Society aims to promote Health and Well-being throughout the Surrey Hills

Please register below for this special event and you will then be sent a link to the meeting a few days in advance.
