Explore Reigate Hill and Gatton Park

2nd July 2017, 10:30 - 12:00

Join the Chairman of Surrey Hills Society, Chris Howard on a gentle stroll around this gorgeous Capability Brown historic landscape at Gatton Park, near Reigate. This is an easy 1 hour walk, where you will discover some the stunning views in this special 18th century countryside.

Gatton Park Estate was bought by Jeremiah Coleman (of Colman’s Mustard fame) in 1888.  He was a passionate gardener and commissioned Lancelet Capability Brown to landscape the estate, who was the leading landscape architect of his day, creating picturesque naturalist landscapes of rolling hills and tranquil lakes. The Stone Circle was placed at Gatton Park by the Jerusalem Trust to commemorate the Millennium.  Each stone represents 200 years of time and in inscribed with quotes and poems of each era.

We will end this 3.2km walk with a visit to the Gatton Park Fair being held on the day.  Dogs are welcome on the walk.

Meet us at Reigate Hill, Wray Lane Car Park. RH2 0HX, Grid ref: TQ26275233 at 10.30am for 11.00am prompt start and a 12.00pm finish.
